Sandaya: Burmese Lessons.  A Work-in-Progress.  A young American musician travels to Burma to explore her artistic inspiration from the country’s unique form and expression of playing “Sandaya,” the Burmese word for piano. Over several decades, she deepens both her understanding and love for a culture full of complexity and contradictions.  During her sojourn there, Burma becomes Myanmar, and political and environmental events swirl around her, including The Saffron Revolution and the devastating Nargis cyclone, that teach her about the Burmese people’s plight and resilience.  Sandaya: Burmese Lessons features a collaboration of artists including performance artist Chaw-Ei Thein, dancer Schwe Man Win Maung, puppeteer Eric Brooks, singer-actress Kara Morgan, and the compositions and  “sandaya” playing of Kit Young. Writing and staging assistance by Susan Galbraith.  Print Flyer.
