edit events
Since we have selected the option to have visitors add events I would like to allow them the option to edit their events as well. That way if they put the event on the wrong date they can fix it as well. Thanks.

Only people who know your localendar member name AND password can sign-on and edit your calendar. If you share this information with your group, then they will be able to maintain your calendar.

What about the ability to edit from within a web site (not localendar.com)?

Actually, if you let visitors add events, when they submit them, they are given a link that allows them to go back and edit their events later on. They don't have to go to localendar.com, or know your calendar's credentials to change the events they've submitted.

Our parent school calendar is public that allows event posts which are private event posts from anyone that must be approved by the calendar monitor before being published. Once a parent posts their event, they are provided an edit link. The edit link does pull the post from the localendar and the changes appear to be able to be made from the link.

However, as a monitor, I receive a second notice to approve so when I log on to approve the changes the entire post is deleted. This has been an ongoing issue for some time and the calendar is a premium account. According to the threads on this subject, the posts should be able to be modified. Does the problem result from the monitor approval from private to public? Is the link the problem or does something have to be modified in order for the process to work?

Thanks in advance for your help. It would make it so much easier if parents could make their own changes instead of forwarding them to the calendar monitor all the time!

Yes; the "2nd notification" you are receiving *is* normal.. because when an event is edited, it could be changed completely. The calendar owner therefore has to be notified.

Of course, you can turn off this notification under Options->General and let events be visible immediately.

When you log in to change the event, you should just be flipping it from Private to Public and clicking update. I'll do some testing, but I haven't heard anyone complain about this causing an event to be deleted (again, this process is optional anyway and could be disabled under Options)

Thank you for the follow up. I tested event posting and found out that the edit link will only work in the private mode for parents posting to the calendar.

When the calendar moderator switches to public view, then the edit link or key used by parents for edits removes the post from the calendar completely.

The only way to use the edit link successfully is to use public view and eliminate the calendar monitor approval.

This is a very condensed version of my testing. In other words the public view is the only option that allows outside edits without hindering the post. Trying to edit again after the switch creates a second edit link which indicates a malformed edit event on URL from the web site.

I don't particularly want to disable the private to public view since moderating is necessary on this calendar.

We've tested the scenario you describe multiple times, and we haven't been able to duplicate your issue. Here's the basic steps we are following:

1) A calendar viewer creates an event from the public calendar view (events require the calendar admin's review before being published). A url to re-edit the event is supplied to the user.
2) The calendar owner refreshes his view, and the event (private) is there. The event is flipped from Private to Public and Saved (we also tested editing the description and title)
3) The calendar viewer refreshes his view, and the approved event appears
4) The calender viewer uses his "edit" link to make changes to the event title. We tested both updating the event, and clicking "Save as Copy". The event (having been changed) is once again hidden pending the calendar owner's review
Note: The calendar viewer received a new link to return to this event to edit it
5) The calendar owner once again refreshes his view to see the private/changed event. The event is flipped to public and updated.
6) The calendar viewer refreshed his view and the re-approved event is visible.

..and for additional testing, we also had the calendar viewer use the new edit link they received to test the process straight through again. The event was never removed.

I also confirmed with our Dev team that no where in this workflow is the event ever in jeopardy of being deleted from the system. These are all edits.

If you can recreate the process on your side, the specific set of steps you are performing would be invaluable. Also, if you can tell us the title of the event that is "deleted", we can search our database and see if it is still there, and what state it is in.

Thank you for your help. Here is step by step what I am experiencing as the calendar monitor and as a posting parent. I also confirmed this with the prior calendar monitor from our school so I know this is not an isolated incident. Any further information to correct this is much appreciated. smile

4. Logged in as calendar monitor to switch private view to public.

5. Switched post from private to public view.

It is the only way for you to return to this event to edit or delete it.

Also received a new email link as well as notification from the web page.

9. Checked the public calendar, post has been removed. I refreshed the screen, post is still missing.

10. Logged in as calendar monitor; post is gone. I refreshed the screen, post is still missing.

11. Used this link which is the second edit link provided and this is what I received on the web page:Oops !
