When I first started working with the calendar and got it pasted into our website, the calendar day square were uniform vertically, but recently they are different widths.

Care to share a link so we can take a look?
Is it possible that you have entered some text strings that can't be broken up/wrapped? For example, an event with the title:
"thisismyreallylongeventtitlewithnospaces" will always take up a large, fixed amount of horizontal space.
