Alright Marc,

I think it's time to update the FAQ.

The first thing I would suggest adding is

To cancel a PayPal Subscription, after signing into PayPal;

1. Click My Account.
2. Click History at the top of the page.
3. Select Subscriptions from the Show menu.
4. Check the From box and change the date back 2 years.
5. Click Search.
6. Click Details to view the details of a specific Subscription Creation.
7. Click Cancel Subscription.
8. Click Cancel Subscription again.

I know there is other stuff that we have all seen over and over, which by definition, makes it a Frequently Asked Question.

Also, a new forum under administration for Canceling acct, renewals, etc questions.

How about a forum just for "look at my site and tell me what's right/wrong?"

I understand the idea of the "webmasters" forum being for people who have trouble/questions with the publishing of their calendar, but it seems the technical problems, publishing problems, etc, has all gotten mixed up. Which leads me to the next suggestion;

Finally, and this is a biggie, I think it may be time to think about wiping some of the older threads/posts.

How bout Us regulars go through and notate the stuff that isn't covered in the FAQ, maybe by adding on to this thread, and in a month or two, we boil it down, and start over?

You with me CCCwebsite, Alamo Angel, all you other regulars?

Here's some more for the FAQ

Why are their Google Ads on my calendar?

Localendar provides Calendars for FREE to it's users. To help offset the associated cost, Google Ads are displayed. For the first thirty days, new free accounts do not have any advertising. The content of these ads is based on the content of your website. Localendar does not have control over the ads placed, however any inapropriate ads can be brought to our attention by copying the ad text and link to our community Forum. They will be reported to Google.

Premium Users (Pay Accounts) do not have ads displayed on their calendars, either published or linked. For only $9.95 a year, this is a great deal, less than a dollar a month!

Can I change the Ads displayed?

We do not have any way of controlling which ads, including those of your competitor's, are displayed.

UPDATE the how do I change colors to add "arrows"
also, the FAQ say support for day and week is coming soon, I know for a FAQT it is already here! (ya like that, FAQT???"

The "Include Pictures" is in desperate need of revamp, such as clipart....

all the different styles of published calendar might be listed, and shown as examples, along with start date, and other options.

OK, that's a start, I'll add some more when I get home from work...

Agree with everything jamiecd77 lists.

Now my 2 cents worth.

Announcements are just that "Announcements" meaning only the Calendar staff should be posting on that board. All others shouldn't have the ability to post there.

Same for Known problems. It should only be for the Calendar staff to post known problems in the calendar and any work arounds for the calendar users. Again, all others shouldn't have the ability to post there.

I agree to all of this stuff.

And especially the Announcements rule; unfortunately that's a code change b/c currently don't support locked threads/topics.

I also want to include some of the top FAQ questions sent as part of the email response when you open a ticket.

Let's add this to the new faq

MySpace does not allow the use of the javascript, iLayer, or iFrame codes that we use to publish the calendar.

There are some flash widgets that can be set up to act as RSS readers. At the time of this FAQ update, flash is allowed on myspace.

These are not operated by localendar, and we can not endorse any particular one. If you would like to see a sample of these widgets, you can try Widgetbox

There are a few different web sites offering flash RSS readers for free. You simply have to find the one that works for you.

I am starting my research in to th past, starting with the "General Discussion" Category.

Here is on from all the way back 2004.

Why am I not receiving my reminders?

Sometimes, an ISP may change their email filtering so that localendar mails are mistakenly classified as spam or 'bulk'. If you have access to a special folder for this auto-filtered mail, check it to see if your messages are appearing there.

Also, we frequently see errors in our mail server logs where a mail server will not accept delivery of a message. This may be due to the address being mistyped, the person's mailbox being full, or other reasons (one service once mistakenly classified all email from localendar.com as being spam). In such cases, localendar will try to re-send the message several times before giving up.

Can I add a link back to my own site from my calendar?

The best way to add a link back to your home page is to include an HTML hyperlink in the calendar title...

1. Log into localendar.com
2. Click on Options
3. In the Calendar Title field, add something like this:
<A HREF="http://www.mysite.com">Click here to go home</A>

Obviously you'll need to change "mysite.com" to the address of your site. You can also change the "click here to go home" text.
If you have other text in your calendar title already, you can force a new line by adding a <BR> tag, e.g. ..

MY CALENDAR OF EVENTS<BR><A HREF="http://www.mysite.com">Click here to go home</A>

This will display the multi-line title:

MY CALENDAR OF EVENTS

---------------------------------------------------------

Why Can't I create my own category?

The category list is currently fixed to help support our calendar searching functionality.

Having a predefined set of categories ensures that when visitors want to search all the calendars hosted on localendar, they can filter by a small list of categories, rather than by the thousands of unique categories our members would undoubtably dream up.

--------------------------------------------------------

How long will past events stay on my calendar?

One-time events may be archived 1 year after the event occurs. Repeating events may be archived 1 year after the last occurrence of the event (regardless of subscription level)

In any case, events are not automatically removed when the calendar year rolls over.
