i'm from United Kingdom,

and it be great if the calendar site can be use for United Kingdom, like you have on the site US h-day

Can you describe specifically what you're after? We have a lot of users in the UK. You can customize the default holidays (eg, remove US ones) under Options->Events.

Just trying localendar out: as someone from the UK it would be good to have a GMT slot.

I'm a bit bemused by the need to have an "event ending" time: is it possible to tweak this so it can be open ended?

Sorry, forgot -- is there an option for events to be added THEN approved before they appear?

You will need to have at least a Premium Webmaster subscription to set up email notification of any events created by visitors. You can then approve/disapprove the event as you wish.
Click on "options" , under the "general" tab there is a choice for "allow visitors to add calendar events". If you click "more information" it will give you more specifics.
