We recently started using localendar for our web site www.virtual-lancaster.net/whatson/index.htm here in the UK. It's great - we've been wrestling with trying to find this kind of solution for ages. Some things we'd like: • When someone submits at present from our web site there is no verification process. For example, they should have to include their email address at the very least. That way, when the event is approved, they could be informed it has been accepted and sent a web link, which would drive traffic. • Search is by US zipcode which is no use for UK users. Could this be expanded at some point to be location rather than zipcode based? • Time zones - most web sites have time zone functionality worldwide, localander is US only. GMT would be useful • Add an event button. It would be useful to have code just for "add an event" which could be placed separately on a web page, rather than just the embedded link within the calendar code. That way we could put an "add event" button at top of our events pages or across the site. You can see your localendar technology in action at: • http://www.virtual-lancaster.net/whatson/index.htm • http://www.virtual-lancaster.net/whatson/wo_today_and_upcoming.html • http://www.virtual-lancaster.net/whatson/wo_monthly.html Thanks for a great service. Well worth the subscription! |

Thanks for the feedback! A couple of points: You will note that we recently added a "location" field on the Event Editor. Events are now geocoded, which means that zip-code based searching (sooo 20th century ;-)) is on its way out. Soon we'll be moving to pure location based searching, which means you'll enter you're exactly street address and not a postal or zip code You may have also noticed that we allow published calendars to be in German, French, Spanish, or English. This is a precursor to the full site being available in multiple languages, and moving to GMT will be a natural offshoot of this change. We don't have any plans for a separate "Add Event" button, but you should be able to take the html code from your published calendar and paste it wherever you want. Good idea on the "email" or "voice" fields for anonymous event creators. Of course, someone could always fake those if they wanted, but I think it's on our to-do list already. ---------------------------------------- Marc Higgins Support Associate, localendar.com Follow us on Twitter! http://www.twitter.com/localendar_news |
