Creative journal

Children Grades 3-5

Create your own book cover using fabric, paint, ink, pencil, or photos, with a journal provided by the Library. During the summer, draw, paste magazine cutouts or photos, or doodle on your journal pages.  Write a poem, share your thoughts, review a book, or record a quote.  Your journal may be added to the Library collection. Led by Léna Roy of Writopia Lab.

Wind Tube Challenge

Ages: Grades 3-5

The fun begins when junior inventors use odd and interesting materials to create a flying object and experiment with a fantastic wind tunnel. This is a playful and inventive way of exploring airflow, drag, symmetry, turbulence, air resistance, and gravity. Presented by the Westchester Children’s Museum.

TECH TRACK Adventures in Scratch

Ages: Grades 3-5

Create original video games using Scratch, an MIT designed programming language designed to make programming fun and easy. Students learn codes and explore the ins and outs of creating games. By the end of the class, students will be able to create original games to share with friends and family!

Shadow Puppets

Ages: Grades 3-5

Telling stories helps us to understand other cultures and times. Kids create a shadow puppet and learn how to improvise a story. Shadow puppetry is an ancient form of storytelling using flat cut-out figures which are held between a source of light and a translucent screen. Presented by David Feldman, Puppeteer.

What if you didn’t have a GPS? Would you know how to use a map and a compass to find your way? Find clues throughout the library using only a map and a compass.
