Circular walk around Draethen and Machen area.

Signs of springtime walk

Lovely 7 mile scenic circular walk around Draethen and Machen area.

Woodlands and river walks, fields, views, river, church, conservation village, iron bridge and Ruperra Castle. Mainly off-road tracks. Some moderate steady climbs through fields and woodland but nothing too strenuous. Mainly flat by the river. Muddy and deep puddles in places. A pole would be handy for slippy downhill sections. BPL.

Meet in car park at llwyn hir forest car park at 10am for 10:15 start.

Directions: From Maenllywdd Inn in Rudry take the road towards Draethen for about half a mile and the entrance to Llwyn Hir car park is on your left.

Cardiff Linear Walk 3 miles

Join Katherine for a walk from Insole Court, Llandaff to the Stone Circle in Bute Park. Meet by Insole Court Gates at 10.30 am. We will walk through the parks over the Blackweir Bridge & on to the Stone Circle.  We will return by the bus 122 or 63 to Llandaff from the bus stop by the Holiday Inn on Castle Street, unless members are happy walk back.  Coffee during the walk.

Walk from Mountain Ash to Twyn Brynbychan

A 7 mile moderate hill walk with steep sections and great views across the Cynon and Taff Valleys. Mostly on good tracks but sections could get muddy. Includes forestry, birch woods and open country, with a lovely stream and waterfall at the end. Bring packed lunch. Meet at Cardiff Central station from 9.30 to catch the 9.43 train. For those who wish to drive to the start, meet at Mountain Ash railway station at 10.30 (the train arrives at 10.33). Postcode CF45 3HD, grid reference 048989. BPL. Contact David on 07736339013.

Skittles at the Birchgrove

COG vs IVC (sort of- pick your team!)

Carl has booked the skittle alley at the Birchgrove from 1730 on Thursday 19th March. We can meet from then for food and drinks and start the skittles at 1900. We will need (preferably) at least 16 people for a viable match. Teams can be decided on the night. 

Andy Mitchell and Carl Colwill are hosting the event. We have had good interest but it was tricky finding a date. Thank you all for your patience.

Sunday 22nd March - Cwmcarn Forest Walk - 7.5 miles, moderate

After leaving the Cwmcarn Forest Visitor Centre we climb and follow forest roads and tracks on a circuitous route around the Nant Carn valley - a route that offers many fine views. After lunch we descend to the valley floor and pass a small lake before returning to the start and the visitor centre cafe. BPL. Meet outside the visitor centre main entrance (Grid Ref ST229936, What3Words brochure.nicely.infants) for a 10:15 am start. The entrance to the main car park is situated approx. 100m before reaching the smaller visitor centre car park (a charge of £3 currently applies). Toilets are available in the visitor centre and main car park. Contact Wayne

Beulah Lunchtime Concert

Welsh soprano, Manon Ogwen Parry, winner of the W. Towyn Roberts Scholarship at the 2025 National Eisteddfod joins us for the first time at Beulah URC. Currently in her final year of the Opera Course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, Manon is increasingly in demand as a performer across the UK. She is partnered by distinguished pianist, Jeffrey Howard, and together they will perform a programme of songs and arias to take us towards Easter.

A popular episode of Midsummer Murders brought to life on the stage. Starring Daniel Casey, who played Sergeant Troy in the TV series, as Detective Chief Inspecor Barnaby.
