    **Human Library Event Postponed**

    Wednesday May 10
    5:30 pm - 8:30 pm

    Carnegie Library East Liberty Branch

We're sorry to say that this event is postponed and will not take place on May 10. Stay tuned for information on a new date.

We have determined to go with a more nuanced and specific focus for the launch and will be scheduling a meeting soon to go over those details.

    Thank you for your patience.

The Human Library is an initiative for social change working from the power of a personal story. Community members who experience discrimination will share their stories of marginalization and resiliency.

Come listen and engage with the folks sharing their stories to deepen your understanding and appreciation for a diversity of experiences. We invite you to connect with the complexity and humanity we share.

    Light refreshments and drinks provided.

Please RSVP by May 5 to Kali Stull at 412-456-1877 x211 or by email kstull@consumerhealthcoalition.org

Military Personnel with Disabilities in Film

    Thursday May 11
    4 pm - 6 pm

Films from the Front Line: Active and Veteran Military Personnel with Disabilities in Film

    East Liberty

CLP – Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped and the Health Committee for People with Disabilities of the Consumer Health Coalition will host a panel discussion about Active and Veteran Military Personnel with Disabilities in Film. The panel will include:

Milt Henderson from Keystone Paralyzed Veterans of America
Jonathan R. Bell, Ch, Lt Col, USAF-PA ANG, Wing Chaplain
Dan Schlegel from Veterans for Peace of Western PA

Individuals with disabilities are beginning to be portrayed more in popular cinema. Yet, many of those representations remain inaccurate and may be offensive. This film panel is intended to stimulate discussion about how active and veteran military personnel with disabilities are portrayed in film and should not be considered an endorsement of the films’ accuracy or appropriateness.

    We will be asking:

    • Are the portrayals accurate?
    • What’s the message being promoted?
    • What film needs to be made to promote an accurate or positive image?

All film clips shown will be audio described.    ASL interpreters are available upon request—please notify us a week in advance by contacting CLP – LBPH at 412.687.2440 or lbph@carnegielibrary.org.
