Dana & Carol's 1st Annual Slab City Ride

(Sat, 07 Nov 2009 9 AM PST)

The ride is this Saturday, November 7th at location #8 Starbucks on Mercy Road. We will meet behind the Chevron gas station.
The ride is approx 280 miles from Mercy Road back to Hwy 8 (La Mesa).

Riders meeting at 9:00 am. In gear at 9:15. You can expect to be back at Hwy 8 in La Mesa area around 4:30 pm.

There is a video or CD that you can rent titled "Pleasures of the Salton Sea" that has a segment on Slab City. It is worth watching. Slab City is where anyone can move their trailer, RV, tent, or car and just live there rent free. The residents have decorated the area quite uniquely. It's one of those places where you can say "Been there done that".

Salvation Mountain is right next door. It is quite an eyepiece. Look at pics online. It was built by a man named Leonard who also built the largest ( I
think) ballon out of scraps (to big to fly) which is a Landmark back east somewhere. You can't tell by looking at the online pics but you can walk inside the Mountain.

I'll post the exact route in a couple of days but the basic route will take us through Highland Valley Road, Banner Grade, and south tip of the Salton Sea. We will be head back via Hwy at 8.

Hope to see you there.
Dana & Carol

CA1N Toys for Tots (Mike & Elma)

(Sat, 21 Nov 2009 9 AM PST)
CA-1N is sponsoring the Local Toys for Tots ride. Remember this is the United States Marines National drive to collect toys for under privileged kids. Our Chapter will meet Saturday, November 21 at McDonalds in Escondido, 1050 W. Valley Parkway at 8:30AM and leave at 9:00AM. The cost of the ride is $10.00 and a new unwrapped toy per person. There will be an escorted ride from Oceanside Harbor to Pauma Casino, as well as some great prizes, like a set of helmets. The Casino provides lunch.
This is a GWRRA event that supports Chapter CA-1N so you can also expect a 50/50 drawing The Gold Angels Motorcycle Drill Team will be performing out at the casino.

Elma and I will lead the ride to the Harbor and would like to have a lot of Chapter Members join us. We want to travel out to the Casino as one group. This allows us to keep in CB Contact, and make a good appearance.

Mike and Elma Maury

Parking Lot Practice

(Sat, 28 Nov 2009 9 AM PST)
Parking Lot Practice is your chance to hone your parking lot (slow speed) rider/co-rider skills held on the fourth Saturday of each month (see calendar for dates and times). PLP is not formal training intended to teach you how to ride. For that you need to attend a class like those put on by Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF). PLP is an informal practice session intended to increase your skill level in a safe location. There are no "Instructors" and no "pressure to perform" at PLP.
PLP is open to GWRRA members and associate members. Membership information can be found here.
Besides having a street legal and safe motorcycle, there are some other requirements:
Valid motorcycle drivers license, valid motorcycle registration and valid insurance. Safe and street legal motorcycle. Proper safety riding gear: Over the ankle boots, DOT approved helmet, long leg pants, long sleeve shirt or jacket, eye protection, full finger gloves.
