Desert Survival Course given by Ancient Pathways

(Fri, 06 Nov 2009 All Day) This comprehensive course will offer a solid foundation in the field skills involved in handling a desert survival situation. Topics include: survival psychology, heat-related injuries, natural and improvised shelters, water location and procurement, basic map-reading and navigation, solar stills, signaling methods, primitive and modern firemaking skills, edible and poisonous plants, and desert hazards such as snakes, scorpions, and flash floods. Typically held in the Cottonwood and the Central Arizona region.

This is given as a 3 Day Course. Cost: $425

Price includes group camping, instruction, and two meals a day. Participants may bring any gear (tents, sleeping bags, etc...) that they need to be comfortable.

GFEC 'Success in the Workplace' Mini-Camp

Each student will rotate through all four topic related workshops, enjoy a catered lunch and hear the message of Brett and Zach speaking on Pursuing Your Passion. Students will all leave with valuable resources and have had an opportunity to hob nob with local business leaders during the lunch presentation. This all day event will be held at the Coconino Community College, Flagstaff Campus. Funding for this event was provided by the Greater Flagstaff Economic Council.

10th Annual Film Festival and Silent Auction

(Sat, 07 Nov 2009 5 PM - 8 PM MST) Grand Canyon Youth's 10th Annual River Runner Film Festival & Silent Auction will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2009. This fun-filled event is open to the community and features river-themed films, a silent auction, and delicious food from Big Foot BBQ. All proceeds benefit the innovative programs at Grand Canyon Youth, a local 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. This year's films include the renowned 'Grand Canyon Adventure: River at Risk' narrated by Robert Redford and featuring music of Dave Matthews Band. The silent auction features generous donations from over 90 artists, river outfitters and local businesses. The event takes place at the Coconino Center for the Arts on Fort Valley Road in Flagstaff, Arizona. Admission to the event is $10 and is open to the public. Grand Canyon Youth is a non-profit organization based in Flagstaff, Arizona offering youth ages 12-19 experiential education along the rivers and canyons of the southwest since 1998. In 2009, Grand Canyon Youth ran 30 trips serving over 500 participants who completed over 8,000 hours of community service as part of the program. This hands-on course is held at our new basecamp in the canyons near Bluff, Utah. Each day will allow practice and application of realistic food procurement methods.

With guidance from Jerry and Tony, you will learn to set a proper trapline, participate on daily hunts, refine tracking skills, and learn firsthand what's involved in putting meat on the table.

The Guidance Center's 5% Wednesday with New Frontiers

Cambridge Lane in Flagstaff, has graciously given to The Guidance Center for a 5% Wednesday. On that date, New Frontiers will give The Guidance Center 5% of the day's total net sales. The proceeds of this event will be use by The Guidance Center to help the needy of northern Arizona in a number of ways, including: ? 24-hour Crisis Service ? Inpatient and Outpatient Services ?
