    The primary role of facility managers is to manage/oversee an operating facility. To do this, facility managers must have a working knowledge of building systems, structure, interiors and exteriors and grounds so the facility and all of its required systems function efficiently, reliably, safely, securely and in a manner consistent with existing regulations and standards. Effective operation and maintenance of facilities is a complex responsibility in today's environment.

    Understanding the intersections that LEED has with the facility management profession can also give you an edge in marketing your value to prospective clients. We'll offer a fly-by of the LEED operations and occupancy credits in terms of what they mean for you, and examples of what they look like in practice.
     
     Speaker: Elizabeth Powers, Principal, O'Brien & Company LEED AP BD&C and ID&C, CSBA
     
     Elizabeth specializes in the application of integrative process and use of sustainability measurement systems to create better economic, social, and ecological outcomes for O'Brien & Company's clients. She uses the knowledge she's gained from 18 years in the field and her skills motivating people to facilitate projects and programs focused on the built environment using the Integrative Process (IP) standard developed by the American National Standards Institute. The primary focus of her work is the development and application sustainability systems, metrics and indicators to commercial, institutional and infrastructure development. She is the Principal-In-Charge on over three dozen LEED and sustainable building projects for the company. She also provides education, technical assistance, and program support in the areas of sustainable site development, green building materials, and sustainable construction practices.
