(Sun, 01 Nov 2009 4 PM - 5 PM CST) Get ready to roar! Nightbird Books is having a reading of the Maurice Sendak classic Where The Wild Things Are on Sunday, November 1, from 4-5 pm. The reading will be followed by a craft project and some tasty snacks! Feel free to drop in before you go to see the movie!
While aimed at the K-2 crowd, older children are welcome. Younger children will need a parent participating during the craft project.

Nightbird Books has hired Candice Sisemore from the Montessori School to help us plan one children's event each month. We are looking forward to all the wonderful things she will be bringing to the bookstore. Check your emails regularly so you don't miss any of the fun.

Arkansas Playwrights Workshop with Bob Ford

Arkansas Playwrights Workshop is dedicated to nurturing new plays and playwrights through ongoing Monday night workshops and occasional public performances of new work. Each first and third Monday, sections of new work are read by area actors. Sessions are open to beginning and advanced playwrights and screenwriters. Actors and directors are welcome, and walk-ins are encouraged. APW is directed by Robert Ford, playwright-in-residence for TheatreSquared, Northwest Arkansas' professional theatre company.

Omni Book Forum on Afghanistan

Her Words Out Loud - Women's Open Mic - third Sunday of each month

At Howl, women are invited to read poems (their own or another woman writer's), share short prose, or sing at an open mic forum hosted by Mendy Knott. Come read, sing, or play your work to a really receptive audience. It's a great place to "try out" new work, share your masterpieces, or read for the very first time. Men and women are warmly invited to attend ths celebration of women's words.

Ozark Poets and Writers Collective

On the last Tuesday evening of each month, OPWC presents a featured reader and open mike. Our guest poets comprise local, regional and national artists, from Miller Williams and Mohja Kahf to Dannye Romine Powell and Naomi Shihab Nye. Admission is free -- not that we mind modest donations. Each featured performance, which usually starts around 7:30 p.m., is preceded at 7:00 by an open mic session and is followed by one as well. Each open mic performer gets up to four minutes to read original works or verse written by others. Our audiences famously encourage open mic readers. The main feature as well as the open mikers perform censorship free; strong language is sometimes used.

After the guest reader, a hat is passed to provide the guest a small stipend and to help fund future readings.
