Immigrants, Pilgrims and Refugees

The Worship Team, leading

We are all immigrants and pilgrims and refugees, some more recent than others. On Sunday using stories, videos and songs, we will celebrate the tapestry that is America as we look to Tuesday’s 241 celebration of our Declaration of Independence.

Each Sunday a different set of wonderful people provide refreshments for everyone to enjoy.  They bring, stay and clean - and by all of us sharing the task, no one ends up having to do it all.cool

The schedule is simple:  We've been divided by last names:

  • 1st Sunday - Those whose last names are between A-G (except not C) are the good folks
  • 2nd Sunday - Those whose last names are H are the ones
  • 3rd Sunday - Those whose last names are I-R, Plus C bring, stay, and clean
  • 4th Sunday - Those whose last names are S-Z take their turn.
  • 5th Sunday - Everyone!  We hold an all-church potluck lunch.

New to UU Orientation

An Invitation to our visitors, friends and newcomers ... this Sunday after the morning assembly

New to UU” an informal discussion, 12:45 to 1:30 p.m., this Sunday.  If being part of a Unitarian Universalist congregation is a new experience for you, or if you’d like to know more about the background of this small but feisty church and the UU denomination, here’s an opportunity to learn.  Red River charter members Marion Hill and Doug Strong will discuss the history and functioning of the UUA (Unitarian Universalist Association), will reminisce a bit about our congregation’s beginnings and its eventful 20 years, and will welcome your questions.

What you’re volunteering to do:

          On Wednesday afternoon/evening – go to church

  • Remove the large rubber band holding the black garbage bag inside the grey trash bin (and save it until tomorrow)
  • Tie the black garbage bag shut and leave it inside the grey trash bin (the city will open the trash bin and take the tied black garbage bag
  • Roll both the trash bin and the recycle bin to the bottom of the Bond Street entry to the parking log

On Thursday sometime during the day – go to church

  • Roll both bins back to their spots behind the building
  • Go inside the back door of the church and on the floor in the corner is a brown box containing a roll of large black garbags bags, take one, open it, put it insude the trash bin and secure it with the rubber band you saved from yesterday

That’s all there is.

We will meet on Thursday, July 6th at 5 pm at church. During the meeting we will

  1. decide on the theme of the 2018 festival
  2. start looking at graphics for our posters, flyers and t-shirts
  3. discuss our goals and needs for the QR codes at the festival
  4. get updates on loading all the Earth Day files onto google drive

On the $econd $unday of each month, all ca$h donation$ in the morning offering are given to one of two organization$ a$ voted by the congregation at the $pring annual meeting.  In EVEN month$ the Texoma EarthDay Festival receive$ the contribution$ and in ODD months the Grayson County $helter receive$ our gift$.

ABC: It’s Easy, and Fun!

As a kid, I bought many Jackson 5 records, including ABC.  Those records informed my early perceptions of love and life.  The alphabet is a simple and powerful tool.  We’ll explore, make connections, and have some fun with the alphabet.  A-B-C, 1-2-3, Do-Re-Mi, you and me!

Morning Assembly: Step by Step: The Ruby Bridges Suite (Video message)

This Sunday the Worship Team has selected a special program from last month's General Assembly:  'Step by Step, The Ruby Bridges Suite'

Come celebrate the story of Ruby Bridges, the trailblazing African-American girl who, at age 6, integrated the New Orleans Public Schools in 1960. Pianist Darrell Grant’s cantata features the choirs of All Souls, DC, and First UU, Nashville, along with a 6-piece all-star jazz ensemble and renowned vocalist Marilyn Keller.

Shelter Crew - dinner for the Grayson County Shelter

The Shelter Crew of RRUU will be taking a prepared meal to the Grayson County Shelter (our near neighbors) on Thursday, July 20, and some will stay to eat and visit with residents.  This is an outreach that the church does about four times a year.  Anyone who would like to contribute to future shelter meals should contact Marion Hill.

The Rev. Thomas Squiers, speaking

Of his remarks, Thomas writes, I will discuss some steps one can take to declutter in one's life spiritually (within a UU context) so that one can begin experiencing a path to wholeness. Some techniques will also be presented that people across the spiritual spectrum - Humanist, Christian, Jewish, etc - can appreciate.
