The Boca Raton Branch

The National League of American Pen Women was founded in 1897 to promote the development of creative women in the arts. The Boca Raton Branch is the largest branch in Florida, and one of the largest in the nation. The branch has been active in the community for over 30 years, routinely reaching out with writing programs and contests, as well as public art shows. This show will feature collected works of photography, watercolor, oil, digital, and collage.

Tech City is a juried visual fine art exhibition by the associate and signature members of The Artists' Guild of the Boca Raton Museum of Art.  The artwork will be in all mediums, relating to technology and architecture, to compliment the Children's Science Explorium traveling exhibit, "Tech City."

We make artwork relatable in a way where children innately "get it." What was the weather like in this painting? Why were they wearing those clothes? Let's enjoy the artist's favorite snack! This class is designed for watercolorists with some experience who have found a direction they are interested in pursuing and feel the need for help in achieving their goals. The class will be taught on a personal ‘one-on-one' basis, where their work in progress is viewed by the instructor for suggestions on improvement and technical short cuts offered to advance the quality of their paintings. Brief demonstrations are offered when called for. Students must bring their own supplies.

Years of being a passionate resident of Greenwich Village have given Regina Ress a sharp eye for New York character, place, and history. From the Bronx to Battery Park, you¹ll relive the sights and sounds of America¹s most exciting city in her engaging, true--life tales. Regina Ress is an award-winning storyteller, educator and writer who teaches storytelling at New York University. She has performed and taught for 40 years in the US and abroad, in venues as diverse as prisons and homeless centers, Broadway, Carnegie Hall and the White House.

Film For Foodies

Food has provided a perfect metaphor in many classic and contemporary international films. Because like a great dish, it takes a complex recipe and mastery of ingredients to bring a memorable film to the screen. Join Shelly Isaacs, founder and host of Café Cinematheque International, when he presents a survey of classic foreign cinema exploring the relationship of food and film. Each session will feature a screening of an award winning film accompanied by a discussion of major concepts exploring the social, economic, aesthetic and historical implications, as well as production techniques. The class will be taught on a personal ‘one-on-one' basis, where their work in progress is viewed by the instructor for suggestions on improvement and technical short cuts offered to advance the quality of their paintings. Brief demonstrations are offered when called for. Students must bring their own supplies.

Young Artist Program        Ages 3-9 yrs

Picasso's Children is an inspiring first introduction to art appreciation for young children. Our young artist program is the foundation for a lifetime love of fine art and for appreciating the world through an artist's perspective. First, children are inspired like a master! In each class, we learn about a master artist in a fresh and fun new way. In a typical day we play interactive games, such as "I Spy" with a masterpiece! We make artwork relatable in a way where children innately "get it." What was the weather like in this painting? Why were they wearing those clothes? Let's enjoy the artist's favorite snack! Next, it's time for our young artists to create! Children work on age-appropriate projects in "the style" of the master they just learned about, and are encouraged to express themselves and feel free and comfortable. Our goal: happy children, at ease with art. Finally, it's time to feel proud at an end of the season art show! Min-6; Max-16

Film For Foodies                                

Ages 18 and up

Food has provided a perfect metaphor in many classic and contemporary international films. Because like a great dish, it takes a complex recipe and mastery of ingredients to bring a memorable film to the screen. Join Shelly Isaacs, founder and host of Café Cinematheque International, when he presents a survey of classic foreign cinema exploring the relationship of food and film. Each session will feature a screening of an award winning film accompanied by a discussion of major concepts exploring the social, economic, aesthetic and historical implications, as well as production techniques. Want to learn watercolor painting but don't know how to get started? This class is designed for the beginner artist. Contrary to what you may have heard, watercolor is one of the easiest mediums to learn since its components can be concentrated on separately. Join us in this highly structured program as we cover the elements and principles of art in individual lessons that include an introduction, a demonstration, ‘hands on' painting, and a critique of the day's work. Classes taught by Mr. Claire Dorst--former Chairman of the Art Department at Florida Atlantic University (1966-1985). Students responsible for purchasing their own materials; Materials List provided at time of registration.

Learn a new way of seeing through your camera's lens. This Fine Art Photography class emphasizes the development of a strong artistic eye through the study of light, space, mood and design. By using a high level of group involvement, each student will develop a personal artistic expression through the use of visualization, selective focus, creative composition and solid camera basics. Classes taught by Becky Anderson--member of the Boca Raton Artists' Guild, and winner of the 2009 Bonnet House Exhibition. Bring your film or digital camera. Ages 16 and up. Min-6; max-15
